MY LIFE IN ART
I have grown up knowing that I come from a long line of artistic people on both sides of my family. Artistic ability was a given, rather than an unusual talent, so I never really considered using it as a career - art would be for weekends! It wasn’t until I was made redundant (in my late 30’s) and had the opportunity to go to university, that I decided to explore the passion I still had for art.
My degree was in Applied Art and gave me the scope to explore many materials. I have always tended to look at a project and use materials that fit, rather than stick to one discipline. This allows my work to evolve and to fit the brief (either from a commission or self imposed). At the moment my art tends to be predominantly textile based - using a lot of wool, mixed textiles and felting techniques, to add texture and interest to a piece. I particularly enjoy building up layers of colour and depth with wool fibres and felting them together to give a loose, expressionist style of work.
Nature in all it’s forms, has always been an inspiration and I seem to be particularly drawn to naturally occurring spirals, a rolling sea and the sky - particularly when there is a good storm brewing or the sky is unbelievably vibrant at sunset. During the last year, I have taken advantage of the unusual circumstances to develop my work into new areas, that are more sculptural and I am really excited to see where these go.....
Please enjoy browsing the shop and choosing your favourite piece to own - all my pictures are supplied framed, ready to hang.
If you would like to contact me to discuss any of my work or commissioning a specific piece, then please email me: sharonsstudioart@gmail.com or use the contact form below.
I look forward to working with you!
Best wishes
